Gantz

Our protaganist, Kurono Kei is a 16 year old high school senior who is always slightly lethargic to act and has no experience with females worth considering.

One day, he met his ex-elementary school classmate, Kato Masaru, on the platform of the subway. While helping a man who has fallen onto the tracks, he and Masaru got decapitated and their body parts scattered. As his last thoughts flashes through his mind, he suddenly finds himself in a room of a mansion.

A huge black sphere have gathered Kurono with a bunch of people that similarly should be dead. Gantz the sphere gave them orders and weapons. They are imposed with the mission to fight with unknown aliens, irregardless of their willingness to do so.

To Kurono and companions, the situation is way out of their understanding. In an environment which you cannot trust for one moment, those trying to return home are killed by explosives planted in their brains. Also one of them falls with each alien attack.

The people around Kurono seeks his help. However in the streets where they fight the aliens, there are no other people to be seen.

Who is able to save them? Is this a TV game show or is it disturbingly real? It is hard to comprehend.

What is the true nature of the aliens?
What is this world?
Why are their weapons of such superior technology?
Why are there no other humans?
Why do the corpses of their dead companions vanish?

And what does the whole puzzle have to do with the sphere Gantz?
